Keeping it Real

Writing is a great way to express yourself, it just sucks when the artist you are writing about outshines you in every sense of the word. Gushing flows and snaring drums; these are the sounds of Blacklicious. Gift of Gab, the lyrical front man of the group, allows words to literally bounce off the tip of his tongue so eloquently that bowing down to this demigod makes perfect sense. Take a look for yourself. Blackalicious – Alphabet Aerobics Now that you probably have some respect for his ability to rhyme like a mad hatter take a look at his insightful lyrical content. In this song Gift of Gab is depicting himself having a conversation with a “latch-key” kid. He discusses the vicious cycle of self fulfilling prophecies that plague the lower class. I posted the lyrics below and please do yourself a favor and really take a moment to inhale the whole pill he is trying to have you swallow. Blackalicious - Shallow Days I just keep moving on... (moving on...) I ju

Religion

What really classifies a religion? A set of values, morals, and beliefs by which one adheres their life to. Well if that’s the case then why can’t music be a religion? The Paperboys seem to think this is a possiblity. These guys are a hip-hop duo coming all the way from Norway. I posted the lyrics below, but in particular I want you to take a look at this verse: Now as a little dude trying to prove his ability I visualize the future where music was filling me With miracles and beautiful imaginary Religion for looser a tune we could use for some liberty There might be truth to this lunacy Better yet maybe it won’t be so bittersweet When we ressurect You never know maybe heaven is next But if it’s not then what the hell do you expect? In my eyes religions have always had some crippling inconsistencies. Maybe I like this song so much because it coincides with my philosophy that conscious hip-hop can really be a source of, for lack of a better word; religion. Ou

Brother Ali - Us

Brother Ali is dropping a new Album on Sept. 22nd called Brother Ali - Us. Amazing album and I assure you this guy has an intelligence far past his pedigree. His lyrics are inpirational on so many levels. I actually got to chat with him the other day on U-Stream. He just finished a show in Paris and was talking to some of his fans all the way from Europe. After well over 3 hours of engaging his fans he took off, but I was nothing short of impressed. I embedded two of his tracks that were amazing. The first song is about how madly and wildly in love he is. The second is regarding, what I believe is his ex-wife, being raped and dealing with the copious amount of pain that accompanies such a painful event. The reason I like this guy so much is because he literally picked himself out of poverty into the limelight all while keeping a positive outlook on life. Instead of placing blame or complaining why the world dealt him such shitty cards, he accepts his situation and alters it through har

Pride

Grouch has a song called "Some People" I put the lyrics below. This has been a joint I have been rocking for a long long time, but today it applied to my life alot. Humans make errors and the right thing to do is admit to them. Don't ever let pride "eat you up inside." Becoming an adult sucks in so many ways. Just try to never make the same mistake twice and even more than that try to learn from other peoples mistakes. On this track Grouch really lays down some solid flows that inspire me, hope the same happens for you. people grow up people go in different directions some people just have different dreams n different desires so you gotta just scratch ya own itch [grouch] some people get better with time and some people have a hard time (yeah) some people, they age like wine and other people, they can't find themselves, man some people get better with time and some people have a hard time (y'know?) some people, they age like wine and other people, they c

Mind Blowing

I am sure many of you have seen the movie "I am Legend" There is a quote in there that just hit my mind. "He (Bob Marley) had this idea, it was kind of a virologist idea, he believed he could cure racism and hate, literally cure it by injecting music and love into people's lives. One day he was scheduled to perform at a peace concert, gunmen came to his house and shot him down. Two days later he walked out on that stage and sang. Somebody asked him why. He said the people who were trying to make this world worse are not taking a day off. How can I? Light up the darkness." Whether you listen to Marley or not, you have to respect the man for truly pushing the envelope. Absolutely fucking mind blowing! I mean to have so much passion pent up in one person almost (key word here is almost) makes me jealous. This kind of behavior is what inspires me to want to become the best person I can be. In the words of Zion I, “Make your inner light shine.” Peace and Prosp

Defying Critics

"Boundries are something I cross a line through." - The Grouch Why would you let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do? If you feel you can do greatness in this lifetime don't ever question that, just defy your critics. Every truly great accomplishment was considered impossible at one point in time. So forget the nonsense and start the success. I was just listening to by Brother Ali - Daylight and I am going to post some lyrics for all of you to reflect on. Big Brother the beast I'm showing my teeth Feel it all in the air it's too potent to breathe Explosive with the free, got a heavy one I wrote up my sleeve I could post up or go for the three Versatile with it I'm grinding until I get it Mindless of the defined limits or consequences I defy critics I ain't scientific I find my intrinsic vibe and I ride with it Vocals no nothing other than soul touching So if they land in yours it's just a home-coming If they don't go there the

INSPRITAION

Having a shitty day? Need a little inspiration for that crappy job or just to fend off the negativity. How about some quality quotes from some great artists to get your day started. “I’ve seen sideways days with a slight gray haze when the right ways don’t pay, but they build personality and character originality will carry ya like a chariot to any area.” -Grouch Or a little old school Black Eyed Peas “Positive vibe supplied by a positive crew And negativity exist and you must acknowledge You can be intelligent and never go to college 'Cause the way we live in society It ain't really the way that it's supposed to be And don't get close to me if you're contaminated Take a picture of your soul and get it laminated Put them in your wallet next to your money Money represents your whole and soul represents your honey Ain't got honey then you ain't got bees And if you ain't got no money I'ma still MC”
