Oddisee and Apollo Brown - The Times

Africa has been raped and pillaged for the quest of global supremacy. What was once called manifest destiny left a continent in complete shambles. The pieces have yet to be picked up and attempts to do so never bring these nations into the first world. It's sad, depressing, and outright disgusting. Oddisee and Apollo Brown decide to openly discuss the systemic problems running rampant in Africa. It's a touching track that puts things into perspective. Lately I've been on a bit of an Oddisee tip and for justifiable reasons. Intellectual lyrics and polished beats make him an artist well worthy of heaping praise. In my quest to find solace I'll keep digging the crates for forgotten gems like this.

Lyrics: Oddisee and Apollo Brown - The Times

Televised revolutions on the net
Only yet we witness it connecting us compose a threat
Overthrow the openness of poverty and hopelessness
Cover it with shadows of a mob tipping over stress
And they got the torches lit progressive acting vocalist
Close the lips of those who only wish to keep on holding whips
Stolen chips give it back woopie that sure would
Justice where's the face of us who be that Thurgood
Butterflies of flapping wings off the banks of river nile
Tidal waves a massive scene wash away the villains vow
This is how we disembowel the belly of the beast
Another message from the east I only hope we hear it loud
Let the wise man deliver to the salivating crowd
Thirsty for the end of hurting fiending to begin the plow
Plant the seeds for the pupils raise then away and now
Present for the present state then never let it come around

And my my look at the times we living in
As blind eyes begin to see the vivid end
As time dies a new era fit to begin
Lets celebrate the end and get to starting over
And my my look at the times we living in
As blind eyes begin to see the vivid end
As time dies a new era fit to begin
Lets celebrate the end and get to starting over

Birth of a nation
Problems that they facing
Shadowed by rejoicing tears cry for liberation
And decongratulations is in order
I'm from north of the border
Responsible for the slaughter I was always on their side
For them I will always ride
Being raised from the states I learned we all from the same tribe
Niggas in the eyes from nose from outside
They wanted us to die its conquer and divide
It's all for the ore that rest beneath the soil
We fin to turn more their nations gonna thrive
It's too late though
Them murders and rapes have replaced for some kind of hate though
All according to plan
The color of a man then divide him by his land as if it was fate though
Well good luck though to my brother from the
South Africas youngest country hope you show em what you're about

And my my look at the times we living in
As blind eyes begin to see the vivid end
As time dies a new era fit to begin
Lets celebrate the end and get to starting over
And my my look at the times we living in
As blind eyes begin to see the vivid end
As time dies a new era fit to begin
Lets celebrate the end and get to starting over
