Shad - It's About Time ft. Promise
Depth of lyrical content seems to be missing in most music today. One common adjective for describing a track is the amount of soul it has in it. When an artist trades in their moral fortitude for a paycheck the end result is a lifeless ballad. A song depraved from substance and creativity left with nothing more than dilapidation. Shad is one of the artists that still has soul in his tracks. And I don't mean it in that B.B. King kind of way, or maybe I kind of do. He gives real hope, and not the artificial Obama kind, rather the determination and perseverance required for real change. Shad has a sense of spirituality that supersedes any church, mosque, or temple. It's as if his connection comes from within the music he creates. That internal push, the last little bit of umph, that's what I call soul.
You look at just about any Lil Wayne track and it sucks you in. The negativity surrounded with hollow, ill informed information over a bass heavy beat is enticing to the listener. As your ears are engulfed by this mind numbing music you begin to walk through life with darkness on your shoulder. It infiltrates your thought process and you start to notice you're loaded with an ornery answer to every question. It's an unfortunate outlook to life. Shad on the other hand is the opposite. The warm effluent glow of radiance from his raps is magnetic. As each stimulating second goes on you feel a sense of gratification. Self-wealth and admiration begin to overwhelm your aura and you notice you're quipped with a much more understanding thought process. So as long as there are soulful cats like Shad laying down tracks like these, you'll catch me headphones blasting being encouraged to do something special.
Lyrics: Shad - It's About Time ft. Promise
Lost faith for a minute
He went on break for a minute
And let his strength escape for a minute
And he fell this world ain't safe for a minute
Devil's favorite phrase this will only take a minute
Don't sleep can't not be awake for a minute
Cousin of death and death don't take but a minute
Cynic wishing every minute just talk and ticked off
Just watching tick tock
Every minute times money money talks false prophets
Limited to no dividends just lost every minute
Counting costs and props and the job doesn't finish it
Going since time been a hot minute
It's his thoughts all creeping around himself like a clock
Sure hands trying to reach for the top every minute
True measure of a man true measure of a minute
Is that both don't stop time and soul infinite
Let it drop
It's about time
It's about the feeling when everything aligns
When you see the signs
When you crawl and you climb and you grind
And you finally arrive
It's about time
I lost faith for a minute
Went away to take break for a minute
It seems hip-hop ain't safe while they in it
Just trying to make hits playing baseball with it
Wasn't first whats worse is I'm late for the second
I've been in it for a minute can't wait for a second
DJ's say there ain't no break in my record
Only if I act fake on me record
So its time I take a second and think
First lines time my seconds in ink
Written by a good boy produced by a Rich Kidd
It's time to prove what the definition of rich is
It is something that pass me my hands and mind
On another level another class of rhymes
Song melodies car remedies longevity
It will last the time
What it's all about then
It's about time
It's about the feeling when everything aligns
When you see the signs
When you crawl and you climb and you grind
And you finally arrive
It's about time
It's about time
It's about the feeling when everything aligns
When you see the signs
When you crawl and you climb and you grind
And you finally arrive
It's about time
It's a feeling when everything aligns
And when it does I find life speaks to me in rhyme
Like a rapper life's Too Short for stressing
Don't count down the seconds count up the blessings
And don't count on getting many answers to the questions
The question marks the spot we began to get the lessons
It's when you feel destined when you feel the essence
The presence when you feel present in the present
It's about time the hard times some do
And the minds in prison on the outside too
When the blinds so you can't see outside you
To the outside time no outside you
I be running in my outside lane no high stepping
Full stride keep pace to the last second
So when I finish if they still want to ask questions
I'll be like Usain Bolt check my track record
It's about time
It's about the feeling when everything aligns
When you see the signs
When you crawl and you climb and grind
And you finally arrive
It's about time
It's about time
It's about the feeling when everything aligns
When you see the signs
When you crawl and you climb and you grind
And you finally arrive
It's about time

Great song. Wish this was on my hard-copy of the album.
ReplyDeleteSmall correction though:
"Cynic. Wishing every minute. Just talking ticked off."
I could be wrong, but that makes more sense given the context.
You're totally right, thanks!
ReplyDeleteAs well, I think the line in the hook is "When you see the signs
ReplyDeleteWhen you crawl and you climb and you grind" aka I think it's 'climb' and not 'cry'
Thanks. That's definitely correct.
