Sonreal - Victim Teen

Nearly 12 years ago I distinctly remember watching some mentally handicapped kids being ridiculed by 4 bullies. Slurs were being hurled viciously like cannonballs, and while I felt bad, I chose to watch rather then get involved. Right at the moment my best friend and near coolest kid in the school immediately threw himself into the fray. Due to him being a jock and exceptionally popular I thought he was going to join the epitaphs, but instead what happened changed my life.

Tony got in the faces of the bully's and told them if they want to pick on someone it should be him. With a protective rage in his eyes he said, "Back the fuck away before I kick your asses." That was it, the situation was diffused immediately and my respect for Tony grew immensely. He went over to the mentally handicapped kids and gave them all a hug. They knew him by name and said thanks. Astonished as ever, I said, "Tony, that really was awesome!" His response was, ""Those kids right there are God's children and while they may be defenseless I am not." After that I felt like shit. My inability to be noble and do the right thing affected me greatly. From that point on I realized the importance of interjecting in the face of unprecedented brutality. Although it may be a righteous path that can put you in harms way, the intrinsic reward associated with doing the what's right is truly priceless.

Lyrics: Sonreal - Victim Teen

She a nerd yeah she a geek
Always stay at home phone never beep
Hardly ever speak
So you take her for confused but
She just particular with the words that she use
Never wearing makeup some girls say she ugly
Call her a lesbian because she ain't slutty
That right there make the cleanest girl feel so muddy
Make it hard to say yes I'm gonna be somebody
But she did and kept on walking
Through these cold halls where these people keep talking
Deja vu the paper planes keep flocking
She just play deaf to them blind peeps stalking
Couple years pass by them those braces come off
Figure voluptuous and her skin so soft
Every dude want her and those girls just gawk
Cause they ain't got what she got
It's kind of funny how things switch
Karma's a bitch
To this day I know that girl and where she live
And she doing better than ever
A certified queen (queen)
She overcame the odds of a the victim teen

Saying you can try
But you're never gonna break me down
I say you can try
But you're never gonna break me down

He a nerd yeah he a geek
Always stay at home phone never beep
Hardly ever speak so you take him for confused
But he just particular with the words that he choose
Got his own bully take his lunch every week
Stuff him in a locker tie him to a tree
Pull his pants down kick his ass in PE
If only this motherfucker know who this kid be
He'd probably get his autograph right now just like me
Professional pianist but wrists to sore to play keys
So when he get home pop an advil and get going
Replicate it all from Mozart to Beethoven
Now he the Rick Rubin of composing
Play these keys here on this record that I'm flowing
Doing better than ever a certified king
Cause he overcame the odds of the victim teen

Saying you can try
But you're never gonna break me down
I say you can try
But you're never gonna break me down

  1. Great song by an amazing artist. I think I heard this one before, but can't remember for sure. I haven't listened to much of SonReal's pre-"Where's Waldo" stuff.

On another note, you should cover some of his latest work from "Words I Said".

    1. Sonreal is dope cat. He is always pumping out good stuff and I'm a huge fan of "Words I Said." I'm sure it's only a matter of time before one of those tracks ends up being post on here.
