The Kids - Sol

Image
"Real shit Fuck the politics. Fuck around and start thinking about the kids. I ain't trying to tell nobody how to live. I just wanna see you live." We are at a very unique time in the history of our world. I genuinely feel an abundance of hope for our future but at this exact intersect we as humanity are stumbling all over ourselves. The mental and physical health of western society is compromised and I fear if we don't do something we are on a collision course with something gnarly. While I am here on earth I have no desire to see this happen and will make the changes necessary for a brighter future. I may have neglected this blog for some time, but there have been many fascinating realm altering stories that have happened in my life. The amount of blessing bestowed upon me are gorgeous and I am forever grateful.  We as the human race need to come together and do things for our kids. The future entirely depends on it. There are so many religions, myths and beliefs an...

Woke Up Making Money - SoulChef ft Declaime

Image
Built like Budda and Bob Marley on a Harley  So much flavor on this track it was clearly concocted by SoulChef. The title of this track is just outright deceitful; the art of making money has been bastardized and turned into an act of craving cash rather then flourishing ones talent. That's exactly why the crispy cadence of Declaime reclaims what is it to be truthful to oneself. I lack the words to accurately describe how poignantly powerful this gem is. SoulChef is one of the greatest producers and an ode to a time that is quasi lost. When coupled with a lyricist who can consciously construct a clear message it's apparent that the power of hip-hop is still exceptionally strong. I love it from top to bottom. It radiates and embodies what I want to be as person. Thank you kindly for blessing me with a banger worthy of making money to.  Lyrics: Declaime  Haha this is what it is  And you what it ain't  Going hard in the paint  Going places where most can't Not...

Let - Grouch ft. Lily Fangz

Image
See Grouch you're my guru leader  - Zumbi . Mind of Matter released in 2000 when I was in high school. The song Silly Puddy is the single most influential piece of music to ever grace my human existence. I memorized every lyric to the song I remember at dinner one night I recited it to my father and step mother. I was just trying to find my way in life and was so very lost like most people that age. Fortunately I had the guidance of Grouch to lean on in my times of doubt.   In the past 19 years he has grown so very much. I resonate with Zumbi knowing that Grouch is one of my Gurus. I've only met the man once in physical form and it for a mere moment in college. He is and never will be one of the greatest emcees as far as cadence, rhyming abilities, and style, but there isn't a question in my mind that he is the most prophetic wordsmith to ever enter my life. He lays road maps out on what it is to be true to oneself. He instills confidence in the listener to ignore al...

Seven Letters - Underachievers ft. King Jet

Image
Pain is one of the most infuriating emotions known to humanity. It's capable of causing the kindest of souls to act in hurtful ways. Contradictory to even the calmest of cools we lash out and do unconscionable things. A phenomenon that is reactionary in trait but hardwired into the mainframe of being human. There truly is beauty in it all and the moment we realize that even the most devastating of emotions has a purpose we begin to grow. The key is to not let it destroy the fabric of who you are, take that moment to digest those emotions and not react. Instead turn that pain into positivity and learn from what caused the hurt. On that same token when someone is being hurtful towards you remember they may be going through a painful situation and incapable of filtering their emotions. Don't judge their actions based on this one moment in time, recognize who they are, empathize and understand this may just be a blimp on the radar. Problem, problem It's hard to under...

Abyssinian - Zion I ft. Blu & Oddisee

Image
Open your third eye, realize this battle between good and evil has been going on for a long time. Many of the artists I've highlighted over the years are warriors of the light. Their mission is to enlighten the listener and spread love. Open your ears, your heart and bathe in what the universe has to offer. The American dream is nothing more than a nightmare. The glitz and glam of becoming rich leaves hollow souls forgetting what it is to love. The desire to become rich supersedes the quest for true wealth. Learn to love others before yourself, help make people better, and then you will begin to understand what real wealth is. Spread love that's my light too Zumbi of Zion I Late nights armageddon Feel it in the mer-idian Abyssinian Ribs are sort of gideon Lots of dudes say he's old school New school no school This is ritual based on principles Mathematics see the static from the plus minus I'm a king she my queen dynasty is my honest Stand tall in th...

Magic - Shad

Image
Hello Everyone, I am back and back with a vengeance. There will be no more sitting on the sidelines and watching our humanity be stripped of what matters. It's 2019 and it's the year of change. I promise to be a pioneer in this change. I will never be swayed by darkness, instead I will be the social warrior for true change. I've thought about this and come to the realization that our current currency is what helps control us. Making it to the top is what everyone cares about and the way to do that is become rich and ball out. My response: FUCK THAT I know how to change the world and it's just a small pivot. We change currency to love. What should be cool is loving others and helping society. When you find love everything becomes better. It gives you a connection with others and that's why I am able to make a true change. The magic and bullshit that controls us will no longer do so. The time for enlightenment is here. Listen to this song and understand the st...

Paper and Coins - Jaq ft Cas Metah

Image
Stumbled on this joint super randomly. It resonated with me so I decided to transcribe it. Don't even know if this song is more of a metaphor or a story about someone in particular. Pretty confident if anyone hits this post they will enjoy this track. Paper and Coins - Jaq ft Cas Metah She the type when she has it she flash it But when the cash absent she act sick Ball caught enough to make you think she's half pit Not a crack addict money's a bad habit Long as her pockets are fat she fine Got a man got a plan called the grand design Her daddy was hustler momma was a dime She never had an option for this life of crime Started off selling soft on the block Got caught, got locked, got out and got back on D boys jockin em for first place Ohh well don't tell but I'm get that gold medal Man I got something worth more than earth lore A birth pure and that's word to your first born Just trust put the dope down He got more important worries than ge...

Oddisee - The Good Fight

Image
I've said it time and time again, Oddisee is nothing short of a renaissance man and I'll go into his album in a moment, but before that let me give you all a little update. Although I haven't posted in ages hip-hop still is the main force that motivates me on a daily basis. I most certainly haven't lost touch with what inspires me to be better. Not many of you know anything about me other than my small snippets of writings, but I have goals and aspirations to leave a lasting impact on society. In the past year I've fallen in love with the most amazing and intelligent woman on the face of this earth. She's beyond brilliant, gorgeous, and is a doctor who wants to dramatically help with global health. My insurance brokerage has grown substantially and I'm extremely blessed to be able practice business in an ethical manner helping my customers on a daily basis. This all being said when I started this blog I always had the idea of doing something far greater....

It's been a while....

I've been gone, busy with life and have whole heartily neglected this site. I'm coming back with some new posts this week that's a guarantee, but in the mean time peep my buddies blog. He's a super talented writer and kills with his insight on the food tip. It's a great read which actually inspired me to get back to posting some new stuff for you all to digest. https://medium.com/on-the-fly

Grouch & Eligh - AKFAM ft Blu

Image
Some call you selfish cause you want to love yourself, well that's rubbish, so I love myself. And I love my brother and I'd die to tell it. -Grouch [Verse 1: The Grouch] Some call you selfish cause you want to love yourself Well that's rubbish, so I love myself And I love my brother and I'd die to tell it I got a load to get off so I'm riding with it None of these tickets is wolf, I got proof We walked in the shoes and talked in these tones An optimist You knocking these songs? I open my doors, they tossin' me stones Well let me draw somethin' Like my daughter does Higher thoughts than what you thought What you thought it was? Throw it back as a blessing, demonstration of My love, it's honest, no limitation to it I promised my old self the new me would never lead our soul astray Even if we're old and gray and can't think right See the path has been laid follow the ink back Remember the hunger and deep thought The embers...

Cunninlynguists - Makes You Wanna Cry ft. Sheisty Christ

Had to put these lyrics up they are just to hot to contain. I've got more to say but need some time to digest. Lyrics: Cunninlynguists - Makes you Wanna Cry ft Sheisty Christ Ohh my Makes me wanna cry Listen I see crabs climbing to be free When dog eat dog is the royal decree Trust nobody Mayflower to Tipi Over the meak sand winds since BC You blame D.C. I blame life She blames Allah he blames Christ We put out bounties we pay that price For green backs we backstab and won't think twice It's more money more murder more homicide Over dollar bills free will creates Amistad I'm a slave hard to escape the cell And I ain't brave just because I moved to ATL Couldn't pay me well enough to sing your fairy tail The cherry that I'm smoking doesn't choke me like the very smell of life Raw and uncut Sex drugs and gun lust land of the unjust Ohh my Makes me wanna cry I see Men on chairs with suicidal tendencies and tears falling down Th...

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Robes Ft. Domo Genesis, Earl Sweatshirt

Image
And like the key open the door I twist the weed I bought because I don't know how to cope with shit.  - Earl Sweatshit  Some rappers are so fucking filthy they require a car wash quality cleanse to truly shine. Fortunately for Freddie, Madlib is the master of mop. He takes cutty classics and spit shines them into pure perfection. These two were made for one another. While this album isn't on the most positive tip it bangs. It bangs really really fucking hard.  Freddie Gibbs will be the first one to admit he's a product of his environment. Unlike poppy bullshit that plagues the radio, Gibbs spits street style sewage. His lyrics are drug infused and his blatant disregard for others is disgusting, however he's got copious amounts of wit. Like a bic lighter to a silver spoon he melts wax creating a freebase like high. My ears melt into a puddle of goo when I listen to these tracks and in the same vein as watching really raw R rated movie proceed with caution. This is...

Cunninlynguists - Move

Image
Get Bramstoked off coke and fight day. A couple of years ago I lived in Oakland and while I've been there a number of times since I simply forgot how rugged those streets can be. My place was on 24th and MLK right on the crossroads. One side was poverty, crime, drugs, hookers, and graffiti the other; corporate headquarters, fine dining, and high rises. I walked 12 blocks on San Pablo avenue Saturday morning before 9 and what I saw was entirely different from anything I see where I currently live.  An elderly Asian man riding his bike on the sidewalk approaches a bus stop where two other men are smoking a blunt having a profanity laced conversation. The man on the bike hopes off and tries to pass but while stepping aside one of the men smoking yells, "Nigga why you on the fucking sidewalk you dumb fuck!" A block  later I hear a woman yelling at a stumbling man, "Mutha fucka you don't own my shit." At this point, while I'm not scared by any means, m...

ANX - Grouch & Eligh ft. Prof

Image
If we never faced struggle in the bubble well that's a curse. My nerves stirred worse drinking numb numb juice to quench thirst. What they call it liquid courage for? When after it's over you're weaker than before I was 14 and lost beyond belief. My parents had recently split and I just started high school where I knew only 2 people. Puberty hit me rather late and I was the smallest freshman who's voice had barely cracked. I got tossed into garbage cans on a regular basis by the seniors and was somewhat terrified. The task of fitting in was insurmountable, but I found solace in hip-hop. At that impressionable age Blackalicious, Gangstarr and Living Legends were the ones that helped me get through some tough nights. A year or two later I remember hearing Silly Puddy and felt that song was written for me.  Grouch & Eligh became my mentor of sorts and it's amazing to think that I grew up with these guys in my headphones. Their struggles mirrored many of min...

Frankenstein - Grouch & Zion I

Image
Are you who you say you are of just a sliver of who you're supposed to be? - Grouch While there are number of deeper meanings to why Victor Frankenstein created a monster, the most straight forward of them all was doing so as a service to humanity. Upon completion of the task at hand Victor became repulsed by his creation. So disgusted with himself he went into a deep dark depression and spent every waking hours devoted to destroying what he created. In the past 40 years our world has (d)evolved immensely. We spend our time staring at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. We've traded character for popularity, morale fortitude for money, and passion for instant gratification. A monster has been created. The internet was originally manufactured for two professors to communicate to one another and now it's used for so many more purposes. Just like everyone else I hear the beep on my phone and feel the itchy trigger finger to see who may have contacted me. This track is a test...

Blu & Exile - More Out of Life

Image
We got to find why's to change this shit... Blu & Exile create some seriously stellar tracks. You'll dig in, listen intently, and realize that you too will want more out of life. It's infectious, thought provoking, and somewhat chaotic. Blu spews truth laced with a tinge of depression which appears to be just a page out of his life. In just about every song he graces there's a sense of reflection and self evolution.  Coming from a father who's a pastor, Blu stays away from being even remotely close to preachy, and always gives a healthy slice of reality. I love his style, wit, and overall skill set. If you haven't enjoyed this track get ready for a great treat.  [Verse 1] Somebody wanted guidance, looked inside to find it You know them blind kids, money on their eyelids Kissing on the fly gyp-ship from the Egyptian islands Gems in the hymns said the chant The moon man grins, hair on my chin grows Hair on my chest burn Flare in my soul cold I can't sl...

Martin Luther King Day - 2014

Image
Once again it's MLK day and again I can't seem to find a song on par with this one. So I figure I'll re-post the same I've put up the last two years. Enjoy. Martin Luther King Jr. is a legend. In some sense he reminds of a seasoned boxer who absolutely refuses to loose. Before a winning fighter can even entertain entering a ring he must diligently prepare a strategic plan to take down his opponent. Meanwhile he trains beyond what he thought his body was capable of doing. Pushing himself to this limit creates a certain type of mental toughness, one that can't be shook. Then, just when he feels as if there no way he will ever be defeated, he enters the ring. As he looks into his opponents blood thirsty eyes an overwhelming sense of fear enters the body and that uncrackable toughness shows a hairline fracture. Unless you're the best. At one point in time Mike Tyson was truly unbeatable. Here is an excellent quote from him: While I'm in the dressing ...

The Let Go - Similar Days

Image
When we decide to refuse our choices we loose our voices the light gets dimmer too If I take the weak route nothing ever differs so similar days ain't bad they're just simpler This is a great gem I recently re-found. It was buried deep in my library hidden among a million other top tracks. It's a simple song that makes it very clear that if you want to make a difference in your life you need to get up and make the change. There is no other way for you end the problems that continually haunt you unless you look them in the eye and slay them. It's easy to try and drown your problems away in a shot glass, but it's exceptionally difficult to face your problems head on. With the new year ahead of all of us take that one lingering problem head on and defeat it. Grow up and handle your problems and if you need help just look within...you'll be surprised how easy it is to find the answer. Lyrics: The Let Go - Similar Days Everyday's just the same now ai...

Cunninlynguists - Darkness

Image
Searching for answers is like searching for Atlantis Regardless of who you are or what you're capable of achieving there will be multiple points in your life where you will feel overwhelmed. You'll feel lost beyond belief and not even know how you got so far off track. When you look up and realize that you're in such a lost and dark place you may very well question everything in life. What's right may seem wrong, and you may want to shift your thought process in order to adjust to your new surroundings. When that happens sit down toss on some headphones and take a very deep breath.  RELAX...remember who you are, remember where you came from, and more so than any of that remember what made you who you are today. What helped define you to get to where you are now? Why abandon that so readily? You'll be tempted along the way and stroll down the wrong path for a brief moment. It sucks and is something when you look back on with a clear mind you will regret, but...

Kno - Rhythm of the Rain

Image
She's my sunshine but I'm catching melanoma I've always thought that Tunji was one of the more talented up and coming artists ready to hit the scene with a big bang. Unfortunately it appears he's put his mic aside to become an A&R for a record label and as far as I'm concerned more power to him. He just has that certain lyrical prowess that allows his skill set to outshine just about everyone when graces a track...that is unless Kno decides to bring his A game.  Kno's verse is beautiful mess. It depicts what it is to fall in love with a maniac depressive woman tying it altogether with a metaphor of a bumpy plane ride. I love this song and in particular his verse lends a helping hand to someone who's fallen down that same twisted path. Lyrics: Kno - Rhythm of the Rain (ft. Thee Tom Hardy & Tunji) Dancing to the rhythm of the rain How could I go wrong? I was ruling my mind I must have been blind Dancing to the rhythm of the rain How could I go...
